The initial inspiration came from shadows reflected on grass. After a few weeks, she developed a method which did not create the object she chose on the canvas as a flat image. When the objects are alive or perishable like fruits and people and other objects, they are transformed into paintings of themselves. Alexa's style of painting has an ephemeral quality, the only thing left of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. Photography and painting techniques closely synchronized, which results in a flat two-dimensional space that achieves trompe l'oeil. Certain elements of the picture like hair and eyes, reveal the 3D dimension. Meade sometimes integrates her paintings within the three-dimensional space that surrounds the figures. They are able to interact with this self-created universe. In this way, she blurs the lines between painting, photography, performance and installation.
